Te Maru o Mauao
The website for the Tauranga Māori Basketball Association.
I play for Te Maru o Mauao and I’m the youth rep on the board.
The club is the Tauranga Māori Basketball Association. It started in 2017 and is made up of the Tauranga Moana iwi: Ngai Te Rangi, Ngāti Ranginui and Ngāti Pūkenga. Every January we go to the national Māori basketball tournament.
Why we needed a site
The club only had a Facebook page and it was out of date. The board wanted somewhere to put photos and an easy way for people to register, so I made a website.
It was on other hosting at first, which was too expensive. Once Kitset Labs was up I moved it over. The club doesn’t pay anything for it.
It took a few months and a lot of feedback from the board to get it right.
Since then
2027 registrations have been coming through the site. Nationals are in Hastings and registration is still open.
