What does a small business website cost in NZ?
Monthly prices from the main website builders used in New Zealand, side by side, checked on each company’s own pricing page. Plus the costs that aren’t in the headline price.

Most website builders show a monthly price, but they don’t all mean the same thing by it. Some need a year paid up front. Some add GST at checkout. This guide puts them on the same footing so you can compare.
The prices, side by side
The cheapest plan each company offers for a business website. All checked on 3 November 2026.
| Builder | Plan | Paid monthly | Paid yearly | GST |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kitset | Kitset | $10 | No need to pay a year up front | Included |
| Webador | Pro | No monthly plan | $20 a month ($10 for the first 12 months until 30 November) | Not stated |
| Squarespace | Basic | $26 | $19 a month | Not stated |
| Wix | Light | Not shown | $17 a month (currency not shown) | Added at checkout |
| Rocketspark | Website Builder | $49 | Up to two months off | Added ($56.35 with GST) |
| Shopify | Basic | $65 | $59 a month | Not stated |
NZ dollars unless shown otherwise. “Not stated” means the pricing page doesn’t say whether GST is included. Wix shows $17 without saying which currency, so check the final price at checkout. Prices change, so check the company’s own page before you sign up.
Read the small print on “a month”
- Paying a year up front. Webador, Wix and Squarespace advertise their yearly price, which means paying 12 months at once. Squarespace Basic is $19 a month that way, or $26 if you pay month by month. Kitset is $10, paid month by month.
- First-year deals. Webador’s Pro plan is half price for the first 12 months on its current offer, then $20 a month.
- GST. Rocketspark’s prices exclude GST, and Wix adds tax at checkout. Kitset’s $10 includes GST.
- Free trials. Squarespace gives 14 days and Rocketspark 30. On Kitset, building your site is free and you only start paying when it goes live.
Costs that aren’t in the monthly price
- Your web address. Most builders include a domain free for the first year, then charge for it. Webador, for example, charges $35 a year from the second year.
- Getting it built. Every builder above lets you build the site yourself. If you’d rather someone else did it, that’s a separate cost, often paid to a designer. Kitset’s Project 100 builds a custom site for $100, GST included, while spots last.
- Selling online. If your site is mainly a shop, check card fees and transaction fees as well as the plan price.
- Extra people. Some plans limit how many people can edit the site. Rocketspark charges $5 a month for each extra user.
Where Kitset fits
Kitset is a New Zealand website platform based in Tauranga. It costs $10 a month, GST included, paid month by month, with no contract. There are kits for different kinds of business, so you start from a design made for your trade and change the words and photos.
If you’d rather not build it yourself, there are two options:
- Project 100. A custom website built for you for $100, GST included, with your first 100 days of hosting free, then $10 a month. It’s open to the first 100 businesses. See Project 100.
- A full build. Your own developer plans, builds and looks after the site, from $699 plus GST, then $10 a month.
Pro is $20 a month if you need a blog, an online shop through Payhip, or more than one site.
How to choose
Work out what the site has to do first. Most small businesses need a few pages, a contact form, opening hours and a map, and to show up on Google. Then compare the price you’ll actually pay over a year, with GST, after any first-year deal ends. And ask who you’ll talk to when something needs changing.
