Common questions

23 straight answers, including the awkward ones. If yours is not here, email us and we will answer it and then add it.

Money

What does it cost?

$10 a month including GST. That covers hosting, the editor, the dashboard, the contact form, backups, one web address of your own, and us answering your emails.

Is there a setup fee or a contract?

No to both. You pay monthly and you can stop whenever you like.

What costs extra?

Only additional web addresses beyond the first, at $2 a month each. There is nothing else.

Do I pay while I am building it?

No. A card is only needed when you want to publish, so you can take as long as you like getting it right.

What happens if I stop paying?

Your site comes offline at the end of the period you have paid for. Your content is not deleted, so you can come back. Ask us for a copy of the files at any time.

Owning your site

Do I own my website?

Yes. The words, the photos and the design are yours, and if you leave we will give you the files.

Can I move to another provider?

Yes. Ask us and we will hand over your pages. Your domain is yours already and you point it wherever you like.

Who owns my domain?

You do. You bought it from your registrar and we never take ownership of it. We only ask you to point it at us.

What happens to my site if Kitset stops existing?

A fair question to ask any small supplier. Your site is ordinary web pages, not a locked format, and we would give you the files. Ask us for a copy any time you want one, without needing a reason.

Your visitors and their data

Do you track my visitors?

We count visits and record roughly where they came from, so your dashboard can show you numbers. We do not build profiles of individuals and we do not follow anybody around the internet.

Do you sell any data?

No. Not to advertisers, not to anybody.

Do I need a cookie banner?

For what Kitset itself does, no. If you add something of your own that tracks people, like a Facebook pixel, that changes and the responsibility is yours.

Where is my site hosted?

On servers around the world so it loads quickly, with the database in Australia. If that matters for your industry, ask us before you sign up.

Getting started

Do I need to know anything technical?

No. The hardest thing you will do is add two DNS records at your registrar, and there is a guide for that with the exact values and a copy button.

How long does it take to get a site up?

An afternoon for a straightforward one, if you have your words and photos ready. Gathering those is usually the slow part.

Can I move my existing website across?

You would rebuild it in a kit rather than import it, which is usually quicker than it sounds and a good chance to cut the half nobody reads. Tell us what you have and we will be honest about the effort.

I do not have photos.

Take them on your phone. Real photos of real work beat stock photography for a local business every time, and customers can tell the difference.

Getting found

Will my site show up on Google?

For your own business name, within days to weeks of going live. For competitive phrases like "plumber Tauranga", months and real effort. Anyone promising faster is guessing.

Do you do SEO?

We do the parts that belong to the website: the sitemap, the structure, the speed, and a checkup that tells you what is missing. We do not sell monthly SEO retainers.

What is the single most useful thing I can do?

For a local business, set up a free Google Business Profile. It is often worth more than everything on your website put together.

Help and support

How do I get help?

Email hello@kitsetlabs.nz and a person will answer. Not a ticket system and not a bot.

How quickly do you reply?

Usually the same day, and always within a working day. If your site is down, say so in the subject line.

Can you just do it for me?

Yes. Ask for a developer through your dashboard and you will get a quote before anything starts. You still own the site and can take it over later.
